More than this

More than this, there is nothing

More than this, tell me one thing

More than this, there is nothing

This is the chorus to a song by Roxy music that I absolutely love - the song is bittersweet and can be interpreted in more ways than one. My own interpretation is closer to a core construct of quantum physics. Everything, the past, the future, all of it happens at the same time. The essence being  there is no past or future; the only thing that is, is now.  All scripture too says the same; in a different way. That said I look back to the year that has passed and would like to share my top lessons learned. In my book they are more than that; maybe in the future there will be something that is more than this.

  1. Write : I never knew I loved writing (this when I have a bunch of Fountain pens that are in use) ! I enjoy writing mundane articles in the hope the kids will read them at some point. More importantly I feel its a way of passing on information and knowledge. My love for books and reading is because of the same understanding; someone is passing on their experiences to you in the form of the written word.
  2. Change : One can get stale. Not in the work that one does but more to do with the environment. The day you feel that the environment is not conducive to your growth or is lacking in a balance of values is the day you want to change the environment. It’s is important to realise this as you may be creating an environment where someone feels a lack of growth or value and unless you make a change to the environment they will leave.
  3. Listen : So often we react, in the rare occasion justifiably so. Remind yourself to listen when you feel anger or want to react. Those 5 to 10 seconds will make a world of a difference.
  4. Surrender to Joy : Unbridled, Unabridged Joy is a mental state that is rare. Savour it. Make it last as long as you can.
  5. Learn : Every learning opportunity is now. Experience the now fully with all you senses and more. One can live a lifetime in some moments.
  6. Give thanks : gratitude expressed in honesty has an unbelievable positive side effect. It rewires your brain and make you more alert and aware.

So the calendar changes in a couple of days and there could be more opportunities in new moments all over again; and in the words of Roxy

I could feel at the time

There was no way of knowing

Fallen leaves in the night

Who can say where they're blowing

As free as the wind

Hopefully learning

Why the sea on the tide

Has no way of turning

Keep learning and living every movement to the fullest.
