Drift
There is this song that I absolutely like from the day I first heard it on radio. I was on my second visit to the west coast of the USofA. The opening lines are “Day after day I'm more confused, Yet I look for the light through the pourin' rain”
Of late I have drifted away from some rituals that I had cultivated over the last couple of years. My writing, my daily exercise, quiet contemplation in the evening. It just happened. When I think about it; it must have started with a bigger tax on my time in the evening. I started to play one ask of my time against another and essentially was fooling myself. It is quite easy to fool oneself. Habits that took perseverance to cultivate were easily discarded for what is essentially an excuse. I knew something was off but was not willing to accept reality and responsibility for the choices made. This is what I call the drift. Happens to all of us. Realising this state and making corrections is what keeps us striving towards the goals we have.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you drift; it happens. Accept it and then make corrections.
