Carpe Diem
Seize the day. Two Latin words that inspire and have the capability to change the trajectory of people , individuals and nations. I have felt in the last 15 years or so that the words don’t really do justice to the capabilities of the human mind, nor do they do justice to the actual idea behind them.
Let’s be honest, “the day” is an arbitrary construct of time it could so easily be the half day or the quarter or the hour. The idea is really about being in complete control of the now. The origins of the Latin words were a poem by Horace (? I think) and tend to leave out the rest of the line which essentially tells the reader that do what is needed today and put very little trust in tomorrow. Sounds familiar ? Zen , the Dao, The Gita all of them point towards this simple truth - The future is something that is unknown; all that you can do is be present in the here and now. Simple eh ?!
Carper Diem should have actually been Carpe Nuc. I could have written more on this subject alas I need to sieze the now and get busy on something else that has precedence to my weekly writing.
