Alignment

Most people are normally not in complete alignment with their goals and desires. Let me elaborate.

People always say “We/I will make progress” but the actual outcome is folks tend to postpone the work that is needed for the resultant progress. It is postponement because one believes that something or someone will make a change that makes it easier to get to the end result. We get sucked into this kind of response because the day to day activities that we land up performing have nothing to do with the end goal. Think about it for a few minutes; look back on your day and describe what you did or did not do. How many of the actions and activities that you listed out actually align with you short term or long term goals ?  You were busy, yes and did not have any time left over to add new activities.  It is as Parkinson’s Law says - “work expands to fill the time available”. We land up doing things that do not get us any closer to our goals and then wonder why the goal seams as far away as it was when we started out. We let the mundane overcome all our time under the belief that we are doing “important” work at the same time forgetting about the actual things that would make a difference.

This daily ritual of doing something when it does not contribute to achieving one’s goals is why we wish that something or someone will change the status-quo and help us achieve the goal we set out with. We are essentially out of alignment with our goals.

Now I get doing things because they have to be done and yes things might not contribute towards achieving a said goal. However it is important to realise that (90% or higher) most of it does not contribute to achieving the goal - we are essentially out of alignment with the goal. It then becomes important that some part of the day / week be actively associated with work that would help active the said goal.

I spent a good amount of time after finishing college out of alignment with my goals; it was a hard lesson to learn. How about you ?
