Dreams

We all dream (or more accurately believe that we dream).

What is a dream ? There are many interesting interpretations; one can choose to believe the ancients and say dreams are important for divination or take an religious view and say that a supreme being talks to us through dreams or take a slightly modern view and agree with Freud and say that it is in the realms of unfinished and unfulfilled desires or agree with Jung and say that dreams are a way to resolve the burden of the day. The scientific view is that the brain goes through different wave patterns and one of the outcomes of these patterns is a mixed memory cluster where one takes an active part.

Dreams are colourful, black and white and in some cases just plain old fleeting glances of something that you might be able to identify but it’s not a sharp picture. I know of folks who have dreams in a serialised manner - they pick up from where they left and continue. It’s like a TV series.

The different view points on the meanings aside. Dreaming appears to be a mechanism for the mind to relook at the situation of the day and in some cases reanalyse by creating a simulated environment with a different cast but similar storyline to help you analyse what could or could not be done. What then is the difference between a dream and an illusion? Strictly speaking an illusion is something that is not real and has no chance of ever being real. A dream on the other hand is dynamic and can manifest its self in reality.

So how does one ensure that the dream manifests and doesn’t become an illusion?

One has to be actively involved in the dream to understand the perspective, to learn about what really matters and what kind of priorities one needs to assign to the day to day work one does. One has to act upon the dream and that very act of doing something on the basis of a dream will and can make the dream manifest into reality.  Tough eh ? Especially when one can’t figure out the difference between a dream that could be life changing or another which basically is an illusion that one would like to stay in.  This is the difference between the folks that are called dreamers (they are basically stuck in an illusion and would prefer to be there, without even trying to act) and the folks that are called visionary.

A visionary dreams and then acts upon that dream to manifest it into reality. A dreamer stays stuck in the illusion and doesn’t dare to act.

I guess I do both; act and also stay stuck in the illusion. The allure of the illusion is at times compelling, on the other hand acting and seeing something manifest into reality is a high like no other.
