Confidence

To be confident one needs to have certainty on the outcome; this is something that is achievable if one has produced the outcome earlier. That is in other words through experience. Herein  is the rub; one can never be a 100 percent certain about the outcome as your experience will tell you that multiple outcomes are possible. Now if that is true then being confident is a skyscraper built on very weak foundations.

Many confident people use imagination and projection as techniques to always look for a positive outcome for hypothetical situations and this does help them in the long run as when faced with the situation in reality the practice put in imagination and projection helps. The person will react to the unfolding situation in the manner in which the mind has been trained and then more often than not the outcome would be exactly as predicted - positive. The few instances where the outcome is negative are used as instances of learning and suitable adjustments are made to the imagination and projection. This method of creating certainty is a very long drawn out method ; don’t get me wrong it works and most confident people by default do this. (The best example of this is probably a world class athlete- all of them practice physical and mental preparation)

Can this be done faster ? I guess so. It needs to start with realising the facts that outcomes are for sure not certain and that any action taken has an element of risk of failure. The realisation of that potential failure is liberating in a way that you face your fear of failure and that provides you the confidence to move ahead - simply put it is a path of courage.  There is a drawback to this mechanism; the actions taken while being liberated from fear are still governed by that fear; it takes courage to face your fear and push forward.

Well then is there any better way ? Yes and that is to dissolve the fear completely. In other words to remove the mental obstacles in a way that they don’t matter anymore. The best way to dissolve fear is to act; act with a hundred percent conviction and commitment without any care of the outcome. In the words of Yoda “Do or do not there is no try” .  It is the act of the action that the provides you with confidence and this type of confidence is worth working towards.

I do my best to do or do not. What about you.
