Quiet contemplation

All of us are guilty of not taking time to slow down and smell the roses as it were. Our busy life’s and the pressure to get somewhere or to achieve and accomplish something do not allow us to slow down at all. It’s worse for students; the education systems that exist do not allow for such luxuries such as slowing down.

For me as an IT architect a majority of my time is spent in thinking and as such I spend a lot of time in reflecting upon potential scenarios, risks, issues that IT systems can or might manifest if deployed in some discrete manner which does not accomplish all the goals of that were set out for that system to achieve.  So thinking is not a luxury for me but a means to an end.

This process has resulted in unseen benefits, I approach life now in almost a similar manner. There is a deliberate effort that I now put in to reflect upon the day , week and month gone by . This  effort of course means that I am free to change scenarios and look at potential outcomes when looking back. This in turn allows my mind to play with ideas, the fundamental principles of that particular idea and this playing helps my learn more by deepening my understanding.

My weekly blogging is also an exercise in quiet contemplation- it allows me to explore thoughts that I have and want to explain to my children; and in the process of writing I tend to remember or relearn something that I might have forgotten about.

All of us should make the time for some contemplation; it would allow for realisation of mistakes and also provide great insight and feedback of the kind of person one is. This realisation is what helps a person grow and helps a person make a positive change to their life.

  2. Could not agree more. A critical skill in self development and continuous improvement. In today’s world people get stuck and do not know why and how to change.
